MEET DR. COURSON
Dr. Courson is a Facial Plastic Surgeon and Native Houstonian
Dr. Andy M. Courson was born and raised on the west side of Houston. He developed an interest in medicine early on, and frequently spent time with physicians who were family friends. After graduating from Stratford High School as valedictorian, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received a degree in Biology with Honors, graduating near the top of his class.
Following college, Dr. Courson continued to pursue his aspirations of becoming a surgeon and matriculated to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He excelled in medical school, and was accepted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, a distinction reserved for those students at the very top of the class. He then moved on to Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery residency at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, training with several renowned surgeons in the field.
At the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Courson learned sophisticated techniques in rhinoplasty, aging face surgery, and reconstructive facial plastic surgery as part of his Otolaryngology training. He also spent time at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, receiving additional training in cosmetic nasal surgery, and with Dr. Frederick Mennick in Tucson, Arizona, a pioneer and expert in nasal reconstruction. In the final year of his residency, he was selected Chief Resident, as well as an Instructor in Otolaryngology, an honor recognizing his hard work, talent, and skill as a teacher and aspiring facial plastic surgeon.
Following five years of residency training, Dr. Courson was selected for fellowship with Dr. Peter Adamson at the University of Toronto. Dr. Adamson is considered a world leader in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, and selects only one fellow per year to be his associate. During this year, Dr. Courson honed his skills in cosmetic and reconstructive rhinoplasty, aging face surgery, and ear reconstruction; and also learned the subtleties of injectable fillers, neurotoxins (Botox), and medical skin care.
Throughout his training, Dr. Courson performed extensive research in rhinoplasty, nasal reconstruction, and cosmetic facial surgery. He was able to present these investigations in several peer reviewed publications and textbooks, as well as in over 20 national and international presentations, and earning multiple awards for his work. Dr. Courson feels that this research during his training helped him shape his techniques in ways that provide the best outcome. Additionally, this has fostered a desire to constantly evaluate his practices in order to achieve superior results.
Following completion of his training, Dr. Courson joined Houston ENT and Allergy, and began his own practice as part of the Houston Center for Facial Plastic Surgery – Kingwood. Dr. Courson focuses on patients’ specific concerns about their face, and works with his patients to decide on the best option to achieve their desired outcome. He uses modern, but well-established, methods for his facial procedures to produce natural, unoperated results. He prides himself on patient-centered care, attention to detail, and excellent outcomes.
