BLEPHAROPLASTY – EYELID LIFT
Andy Courson, M.D. of the Houston Center for Facial Plastic Surgery- Kingwood is pleased to offer his interested patients various eyelid surgery options, or medically termed- blepharoplasty.
Blepharoplasty can be an option to aesthetically enhance the eyes so they can appear to be more alert and youthful. This form of surgery can be an option for patients who have extra skin and/or puffiness in the eyelids and under the eyes, giving the appearance of being tired. Sagging of the upper eyelids and bags of the lower eyelids is primarily due to the natural aging process, but has a large genetic component as well. This occurs from a combination of the skin losing its natural elasticity as well as prolapse of fat.
The eyes have been described as “the window into the soul,” and are often the first facial feature noticed from an observer. Aging eyelids are often one of the first signs of aging that adults notice. Blepharoplasty surgery can be an effective solution for reducing the appearance of bags under the eyes and redundant skin of the upper eyelids, restoring and rejuvenating the look of the eyes.
In some cases, redundant skin of the upper eyelids can impose on one’s vision. This can be an additional reason to seek blepharoplasty consultation.
Dr. Courson is dedicated to patient-centered care, which includes offering information and insight into upper and lower eyelid surgery; which can be performed together, or in combination with other procedures, such as the brow lift.
Dr. Courson Explains Upper Blepharoplasty
Excess skin or puffiness in association with the upper eyelids can be removed through an incision made in the natural eyelid crease to conceal and minimize scarring. Fat is often removed to further restore the youthful upper lid. Fine sutures are used to close the incision, and upper eyelids are quickly restored to a naturally revitalized look once the patient has recovered.
Fat protrusion and sagging skin of the lower eyelids are commonly undesirable, and patients may desire to remove the appearance of bags under the eyes. Lower blepharoplasty is usually performed usually thru an incision hidden on the inner surface of the eyelid to remove, sculpt, or transpose fat. An incision is sometimes made externally just under the lower lid lashes to remove excess skin. Other non-invasive procedures such as laser resurfacing or chemical peels can be performed simultaneously, or as a form of maintenance to further smooth and tighten lower eyelid skin. However, it’s always best to initially consult with Dr. Courson about viable options.
